Play Modes
Normally a gap will be left for you to clap back the rhythm,but you can remove it with the CONTINUOUS option.
CANCEL stops rhythm playing,leaving only the beat.
Backing
A crotchet beat is given by default...Set this to QUAVERS to help time dotted rhythms.Many of the examples offer
a customised backing.In irregular time(e.g.7/8)'crotchets'will give crotchets/dotted crotchets as appropriate.
CANCEL removes the backing beat.If rhythm and backing are both cancelled a warning is given.
Start Play
Rhythm is repeated until STOP PLAY is pressed.
N.B. New slections are not activated until START PLAY is clicked.
Hints and Examples
This option opens a window with examples and explanations of the chosen rhythm.Some examples have a specific backing(e.g.
"one two and" for dotted rhythms)but the normal playback options are still available.
TRIPLETS+ includes groups up to 9-tuplets.
HEMIOLA+ includes cross-rhythms up to 8 against 9.
Note Values
Clicking DOTTED/DOUBLE-DOTTED produces a revised table and explanation.
TIME SIGNATURES opens a window similar to HINTS and EXAMPLES explaining time signatures and giving examples.
